Launchy is an Mozilla extension and will enable you to open links and mailto's with external applications like Internet Explorer, Opera, Mozilla, Mozilla Firebird, Netscape, Outlook, BSPlayer, Windows Media Player and others. Launchy will auto detect all applications.

Helaas ondersteund het nog steeds geen Eudora. Ik heb vandaag dan toch maar een bug ingediend om dit in volgende versies wel ondersteund te krijgen.

UPDATE: Ik heb dus gevraagd of er niet Eudora ondersteuning bij kon komen. Vrij snel een reactie gehad. Dus nu is het niet alleen een bugreport, maar ook nog een waar wat mee gaat gebeuren.

Via DougT's Ramblings vernam ik dat de 'uitvinder' van Seamonkey overleden is. Lees er meer over bij Herald.com.

Mozillazine biedt ons weer een update aan via de Independent Status Reports van 21 december. Altijd weer een goede manier om op de hoogte te komen van de laatste ontwikkelingen.
Een artikel trok extra mijn aandacht. Het betreft de MozManual.
MozManual — Final 1.0 (Introduction to Mozilla — A Manual for First Time Users; a brief overview and feature guide)
The final version 1.0 is now available. This is a complete PDF file with bookmarks and hyperlinks. All source materials (StarOffice text and drawing files, and related graphics files) are posted to the project source page. Also included is a "reviewer's guide" to address FAQs and similar issues. To those who are using this document in their organization: I would appreciate an email telling me how you are using it, together with any other relevant comments.

Wat nou jammer is, is dat er nog geen plannen (lijken) te zijn voor een Nederlandse vertaling van de handleiding. En dat lijkt me op zich best een goed idee. Ik heb dit ook voorgelegd bij MozBrowser.nl. Er zitten daar meer mensen die eventueel kunnen bijdragen.

Ik besef me ineens dat ik de MozNews verjaardag ben vergeten. Deze site is er ook alweer sinds 15 december 2002. In het begin dan wel totaal niet in gebruik, maar de laatste tijd dan toch nog een beetje actiever.

Een van de sites waar ik toch regelmatig eens een kijkje neem (vooral het forum) is SillyDog 701. Deze website richt zich al 4,5 half jaar op de promotie, distributie en ondersteuning van allerlei varianten van de Netscape browser.
Maar Netscape is niet meer. Gelukkig gaat SillyDog mee met de tijd en hebben ze een nieuwe onderdeel geopend: MOzInfo701. Nu dus ook volledige ondersteuning voor Mozilla op alle platformen via SillyDog.

Tijd voor een nieuwe plugin? Probeer Launchy. Versie 1.5.0 is gisteren uitgekomen
Launchy is een plugin voor de Windows versie van Mozilla. Het stelt je in staat om links binnen de browser te laten openen door externe programma's. Dat geldt voor zowel normale als mailto links.
De plugin is nog niet af, maar werkt al wel goed. Het detecteerd nog niet alle gangbare e-mailprogramma's (geen Eudora!) en mediaspelers (geen RealOne, geen Videolan). Maar het is zeker de moeite waard om deze plugin te installeren. Geschikt voor Mozilla Suite, Mozilla Firebird en Netscape 7.1.

Wellicht enigszins off-topic, maar de site gemal.dk heeft een nieuwe stylesheet. En het is een goed ontworpen site, dus de site heeft een compleet nieuw ontwerp.

Hmz, ik word er zojuist via ICQ op gewezen dat Opera niet zo goed mijn 'gequote' tekst omgaat. Aangezien dit meer dan storend is zal ik er even naar moeten kijken. Gaat kennelijk iets fout in de stylesheet. Het lijkt me niet een fout in de site zelf. Ik heb dezelfde constructie ook in gebruik op 127.0.0.1 en daar heeft Opera geen problemen mee.

Twee zeer leuke en nuttige Nederlandse sites over en voor Mozilla.

De eerste is MozBrowser.nl. Deze site biedt een goede aanvulling op sites als Mozillazine en biedt ook een vertaling van de Mozilla Links nieuwsbrief.
De tweede is ProMozilla. Deze website richt zich op de promotie van Mozilla en het gebruik van webstandaarden in het algemeen. Dus als Opera gebruiker of Linux/Unix/Mac gebruiker kan je hier veel nuttige informatie vinden.

Ik was al erg blij met de extensie pnhtoolbar. Maar nu kwam ik een link tegen van de Web Developer Toolbar. En die is ook wel erg mooi.
Er is in functionaliteit vrij weinig verschil tussen de twee, maar in uiterlijk des te meer. De laatste heeft namelijk een fatsoenlijk uiterlijk met kleuren.

Goed afkijken is niet fout! Zo ook bij Mozilla. Daar hebben de makers achter Optimoz goed gekeken naar de mouse-gestures die in Opera zitten.

Er is een nieuwe versie uitgebracht voor zowel Mozilla Seamonkey als Firebird. De veranderingen omvatten:

• Ondersteuning voor rechtermuis handelingen onder Linux
• Eenvoudig delen van handelingen: "Import gesture mappings just by clicking special links on webpages, or publish your own!"
• Bugfix. De handelingen blijven bewaard bij nieuwe installaties van Mozilla.
• Bugfix. Problemen tussen de tab sluit handeling en plugins/applets zijn opgelost.
• Een heleboel kleine reparaties en verbeteringen.

De nieuwste versie Mozilla Seamonkey is uit, versie 1.6 beta. Zeker de moeite. Dit is het complete pakket, dus de browser, mail, chat, composer.

Improved Look

• The default theme for Mozilla Thunderbird has taken a huge leap forward. The theme is about 90% complete with only a few "classic" looking icons remaining.
• The message list pane now shows status for reply, forward and unread as icons directly on the message envelope instead of using text.
• The message list pane now has a separate sortable column for attachment status on a message.
• The Windows animated alert has a new look and feel. It now shows the Account name instead of your server user name.

Improved Interoperability With the OS

• Linux: Thunderbird properly dispatches browser URLs to the default browser. Read more about how to hook this up.
• Mac OS X: Added a Windows menu which makes it easier to manage open Thunderbird windows. The menu bar behaves correctly after closing all open windows. Mozilla Firebird and Thunderbird can be run at the same time with out the two builds interfering with URL dispatching between applications.
• Windows: Thunderbird can be set as the default mail client and/or as the default news client.

New Features

• Windows users can copy and paste images (including screen shots) from the Windows clipboard into HTML mail compose.
• Only mark a message as read when it has been open in the preview pane for a configurable number of seconds.
• More options for customizing toolbars the way you want them. Enchancements include: a mark button in the main mail window and copy/cut/paste icons in mail compose.
• Profile Migration from Netscape 4.x has seen a lot of improvements.
• A Palm Sync Address book conduit extension is now available for Thunderbird 0.4.
• POP Accounts now support aging on the server.

Recently Fixed Bugs

• No more new mail alert notifications when the incoming messages are Junk.
• The progress bar now appears in the mail 3-pane window when reporting progress for operations like downloading new mail or a message body.
• Auto Proxy URLs now work.
• POP Accounts: "Click here to download the rest of the message" now works.
• POP Accounts: A new filter action to delete a message from POP3 server if messages are left on the server by default.
• Junk Folder Purging works on all accounts and not just the first one.
• If you configure a mail server to use secure authentication but the server does not support it, Thunderbird no longer silently falls back to insecure authentication. Thunderbird brings up an error dialog and refuse to connect to the server.
• News error dialogs no longer hang the application.
• HTML Anchors in messages work.
• When threads are sorted by date, Thunderbird sorts by the newest message in the thread.

Known Issues

• *Important* If you used a prior version of Thunderbird and installed themes OR extensions, you need to do the following or Thunderbird will NOT run properly. Find your profile directory. There should be a sub directory called chrome. Remove everything in chrome. This will not affect your mail data or preferences. You will then need to re-install the 0.4 compatible version of any themes/extensions you want.
• The default dictionary is English-only. To add a non-English dictionary, read the installation instructions.
• The enable/disable option for adaptive junk mail detection appears to apply to all accounts (Tools / Junk Mail Controls / Adaptive Filters). It is, however, a PER ACCOUNT option. To set the option for a specific account, choose the account in the 'Account:' dropdown on the 'Settings' panel, then switch to the 'Adaptive Filters' panel and set the option. Repeat per account as needed.
• Mozilla App-Suite profiles are not currently migrated to Thunderbird. You can migrate your Mozilla profile by hand, although we do not recommend it. Even if you simply want to preview Thunderbird, we encourage you to start with a new profile (you can re-use it if you decide to preview a later release).
• Clicking on scrollbars in the autocomplete type down field fails to scroll.
• Tools / Options / Attachments / Attachment Folder setting is not remembered.
• Some users are discovering they suddenly cannot send or get messages for any of their accounts. If this happens to you, please check your user prefs.js file and see if the following value was set: "user_pref("network.online", false);" If so, remove it. Report in on the forums if you triggered this behavior.
• The default theme is almost finished. There are still some Classic theme icons in the UI. Please do not file bugs about icons not being converted to the new theme.
• Linux: The 'Mark All Read' keyboard shortcut does not work.
• Mac OS X: Thunderbird does not open mailto/news urls from other apps.
• Mac OS X: Attachment file names in certain charactersets (like Korean) do not render quite right.
• If you use the mailnews.reply_header_authorwrote preference, it no longer accepts HTML. It is a unicode pref and you can use a UTF-8 editor to add international characters.
• When viewing a message with an inline image, the context menu item "View Image" brings up a small blank window.
